The Grand Junction Housing Authority’s Next Step Program received a $2000 grant from the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation. The Next Step Program helps homeless children in Mesa County School District #51, and their families maintain a stable home life. Homeless children move many times throughout the school year, changing schools, friends and teachers. The lack of continuity adversely affects the academic achievement and future success of these children. This grant will provide necessary support to help increase the children’s school achievement and aid the family in their move toward self-sufficiency.
The Grand Junction Housing Authority would like to thank the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation for their wonderful donation to this very successful program. Without the generosity and support of the foundations, the community and businesses, programs, such as these, would not be able to help families with children in their time of need.
