Ratekin Tower Receives Energy Saving Refrigerators - May 21, 2008

Residents at Ratekin Tower, Grand Junction Housing Authority low-income apartment building on Main Street, began receiving new Energy $aving refrigerators today. The Grand Junction Housing Authority took advantage of a program funded by the Governor's Energy Office (GEO) and administered by Housing Resources of Western Colorado to replace major appliances for low-income households. "We're all in the business to help the clients. This is a good combination," stated Mike Hanson of Housing Resources. In addition to the refrigerators, the residents are receiving new compact florescent light bulbs and Energy Kits. The Energy Kits are part of a service project by the Girl Scouts. Meanwhile, the old refrigerators are being taken apart and the pieces recycled.

For the residents of Ratekin Tower, the savings in energy costs is expected to be a major savings for the year. Energy costs are a big burden on low-income households taking a large chunk of the monthly income. Reducing the amount of energy consumed each month, the savings are two-fold - money not spent and energy not consumed.
